My name is Daniel Crossland. I was
born in 1978 in the steel city of Sheffield,
England. I started to draw at the age of 4
and it continues to fascinate me to this day.

In 1995 I began an art course at Scotland
Street Art School in Sheffield where
impressionistic, realistic and abstract
painting and drawing were taught, but not
classical. I then did further studies in
graphic design and multimedia including
3D. After graduating I worked in the
graphics industry producing a variety of
work including posters, illustrations,
magazines and 3D art.

I then worked in the computer games industry for five years on nine
successfully published titles before going freelance. I now produce
cg sculptures, model work, textures and visual effects for tv and film.

An important aspect of my life for the past ten years has been the attentive
study of the techniques of the old masters such as Rubens, Snyders and
Da Vinci. This unique classical technique is currenlty practiced by very
few artists and is no longer taught in art schools. Finding information
and help in this field is both challenging but also extremely rewarding
and inspiring for the work I do day to day as a character artist.
Today we seem to look for faster ways to do things and often lose touch
with the better ways. I hope to re-establish that link through my painting
and drawing in the hope I can transfer some of those fundamentals to my
digital art. The classical art school is there for people who want to learn,
it's just hidden!!

My goal is that with continued hard work I can improve my own skills and inspire others to look at the past as inspiration for the future. I invite you
to look through my work and I hope you enjoy what I've done so far.
